Love is something which can never be planned, it just happens. Love is never restrained or restricted to things like status, habitats, distance or external beauty. True love never looks for external beauty which will fade away with passage of time and age. True love always looks for inner beauty found within the heart. Love is nothing but the union of two heart or two souls.
With regard to your question why can't we love ourself, can you show me a person who does not love himself/herself. Every individual loves himself/herself. But to get sollace in life the love of other partner is a must and as rightly said by you its the chemistry of the lovers that plays an important part.
In this age of Internet there are cases where people staying 1000's of Kms apart in totally different continent who have never met each other fall in love now tell me what is it that bond them together. The one which bonds them together is the mutual affection they have for each other. At times in love the mutual affection is such that people for the sake of their love and to protect their love can do anything. For such couple its love that takes the primary seat and everything else in this world are secondary. For such people only their love is reality and everything else in this world are just Fiction.
I am in the process of writing a story on the same lines of two people staying in different continent falling in love with each other without even meeting each other. The moment its complete I shall post it in the group and then may be you can get answers to some of the questions that you have raised on love. Shalieshni, true love is never governed by mind its always governed by heart. So when in love never listen to what your minds says just give a peaceful hearing to what your heart says. So coming back to your question if you ask me "Why Two People Love Each Other" I will say its just because they are acting as per the wishes of their heart and not mind.
For true love age, beauty, status and what world will say is just immaterial what matters to them is the happiness of each other.
In such cases if anything happens to one person his / her partner though staying 1000's Kms apart will have to bear the pain.
